13 - Joe Porter
Wood Carver
Jo carves in wood, stone and bone and has done so for 17 years. He was taught an apprenticeship by Allan Nopera. Other creative outlets include painting, metal related objects and sound installations.
Jo's last major wood carving was 'Tane Te Waiora' in Tangitu Bay Purerua Penninsula 2008. There was a sound installation exhibited at Arts Promotion Trust, Whangarei in Nov 2007.
Currently working towards an exhibition with neighbour studio holder of The Quarry - Haydn Harding showing paintings on large canvas.
"I'm currently enjoying my sabbatical at The Quarry. A large part of my life / art is walking and hitching and to offer any tutorial in Whakairo Rakau (Wood carving)".
