Beginners Clay: May

This class will run from 10.00am with an hours break for lunch and tuition ending at 3.00pm. For those who catch the bug, you are welcome to stay on and use our facilities.
You will be introduced to two different types of clay, grogged and smooth, how to prepare these clays for use and how to start using them to create form. Under the guidance of a highly knowledgeable and highly talented tutor, you will learn the dos and don’ts, explore different hand working methods and joining techniques, and will start to colour your work using slips. We will also cover good studio practice; how to look after your work and the Quarry’s ceramic facilities.

Afterwards you will be well equipped to come and use our facilities and join in with our $5.00 Casual Clay days, which are public drop in days:

Casual Clay Monday: 1.00pm – 9.00pm
Casual Clay Tuesday:  9.00am – 9.00pm

Follow on workshops include:
Introduction to glazing
Ceramic wheel work (throwing)
Sculpture – advanced  hand-building techniques
Press moulding and slip casting.


Date: Saturday 6th May 10.00am – 3.00pm with an hours break for lunch
Please note that our cafe is not open on a Saturday but we do have an onsite kitchen behind the cafe which you are welcome to use.

Cost  –  $60.00   (includes 2.5 kilo of clay and the firing of 2 pieces)
