Sat 2nd Dec 2017
This class introduces you to two different types of clay – grogged and smooth – and shows you how to prepare and use them. You will learn the dos and don’ts, explore different hand working methods and joining techniques, and will have the option to colour your work using stains. You will have the opportunity to use our slab roller and moulds, or opt for hand building construction methods as demonstrated by your tutor. Also included in the workshop is learning good studio practice, how to look after your work and information about the Quarry’s ceramic facilities. There is an hour’s break for lunch – bring your own – and if you catch the ceramics bug, you are welcome to stay on and use our facilities after tuition ends at 3.00pm.
Cost – $60.00 (includes 2.5 kilo of clay and the firing of 2 pieces)
Date – 2nd December
Once you’ve done this course, then you will be well equipped to join our Casual Clay days: Monday, 1.00pm – 9.00pm and Tuesday, 9.00am – 9.00pm, ($5 per class). Or consider our more advanced courses, offered periodically: Introduction to glazing; Ceramic wheel work (throwing); Sculpture – advanced hand-building techniques; Press moulding and slip casting
