This class introduces you to two different types of clay – grogged and smooth – and shows you how to prepare and use them. Under the guidance of tutor Richard Darbyshire, you will learn the dos and don’ts, explore different hand working methods and joining techniques, and will colour your work using slips. You will also learn good studio practice, how to look after your work and the Quarry’s ceramic facilities. There is an hour’s break for lunch – bring your own – and if you catch the ceramics bug, you are welcome to stay on and use our facilities.
Cost – $60.00 (includes 2.5 kilo of clay and the firing of 2 pieces)
Once you’ve done this course, then you will be well equipped to join our Casual Clay days: Monday, 1.00pm – 9.00pm and Tuesday, 9.00am – 9.00pm, ($5 per class). Or consider our more advanced courses, offered periodically: Introduction to glazing; Ceramic wheel work (throwing); Sculpture – advanced hand-building techniques; Press moulding and slip casting
