This hands-on course over two mornings introduces you to throwing clay on the potter’s wheel. Ceramicist Julie Cromwell will be on hand to guide you through the process.
Day one begins with a demonstration and explanation of working on the wheel. You will learn to ‘centre’ your clay – the hardest but most important part of wheel work. Once you have conquered this, you can then make all manner of cylindrical forms. Day two shows you how to turn your work, transforming it into something that looks like a finished piece. Specific tools will be supplied, and you will have the chance to handle and try out different techniques. If you catch the bug, you can stay on until 4.00pm on Saturday to use our facilities after tuition ends.
