Observation of the human form has always been at the heart of artistic training. This essential practice presents challenges in conveying form, structure and foreshortening.
This untutored class allows you to concentrate and develop on your observations and artistic style, opening up a world of possibilities through the exploration of mark making and technique.
$20 per session or $60 for 4 sessions with concession card. Cards can be purchased from the Quarry Arts Centre office weekdays from 9.30am – 4.30pm and Saturdays 9.30 – 3.30
WHAT TO EXPECT
The emphasis of this class is to develop a sketch towards a finished work. Generally there will be 2 x 50min poses, but sometimes the class may wish the model to keep the same pose for the entire session (with breaks for the model to stretch).
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING
Easels and drawing boards are provided. You will need to bring sketching paper, pencils, eraser, sharpener, charcoal etc.
SHOWING YOUR WORK
Your work is your own, there is no pressure to show your work to anyone. If you would like help however, don’t be shy to ask, Jamie is there to help.
Matt Kelly is the coordinator for the Quarry Arts Centre Life Drawing classes. Matt takes care of our wonderful models, sets up the space and will be stamping your concession card or taking payment.
There’s no need to feel shy or embarrassed at your life drawing class. Our models are professional and are comfortable posing nude and being observed by the artist. You may request poses, however poses should always be tasteful – this is not the place for risque poses. Models have the right to refuse if they feel the request is inappropriate.
You may move your position to find a better vantage to draw, especially for the longer poses.
You may not touch the models.
You may not photograph the models.
