About this workshop:
All beginners and advanced artists are welcome and will enjoy this series of weekly workshops. Acrylics are among the most versatile painting mediums available. As a professional artist, Margriet’s workshop will guide all ability levels through working with acrylic, teaching techniques, tricks, and tips unique to this amazing medium. Margriet has a week-by-week program developed to explore abstracts and the human form in painting.
Margriet Bruin is a professional regularly exhibiting Northland artist and much loved member of the arts community.
Weekly Class Focus:
15th October – “Carrot People”
To get familiar with painting the human body we will start with “carrot people” who “grow” into fully fledged humans with paint.
22nd October
Draw the human figure dressed and paint this witha fantasy background.
29th October
This class will teach you about watercolour paper and gesso.
5th November
This class will focus on drawing a dressed seated model followed by painting with a pallet knife to create an image of your drawing.
12th November
This class will focus on drawing by emulating images of animals followed by painting with a pallet knife to create an image of your drawing.
19th November – Landscape Drawing
This class will focus on drawing landscapes followed by painting with a pallet knife to create an image of your drawing, then collage with card stamps.
26th November
Create a thick underpainting with sand, sawdust or crystals applied with gesso or another medium. Followed by drying then painting with transparent paint.
3rd December
This class will focus on two designs to get you started on painting Christmas designs.
Course structure: Eight sessions of 3 hours each over an 8 week period
Dates: Starting from Tuesday 23rd July to 10th September 2024
Time: Tuesday’s 10am – 1pm
Course cost per student (18 yrs+): $27.50 per week OR EIGHT weeks $200.00 (excludes all materials)

Materials:
Bring own materials with a recommended starting materials list as follows:
– Watercolour paper (A4 / A3 size)
– Thick drawing paper (cartridge paper A4 / A3)
– Acrylic paints and basic brush set
– Paints should include primary colours, black and white
– Pencil and rubber
– Paint Palette or just a large old plate
– Water container
Please bring:
– Suitable clothes and footwear
– Snacks, lunch and refreshments you may require
– Materials (as listed earlier above)
Workshops are held at the Quarry Arts Centre, which is operated by the Northland Craft Trust, a registered non-profit charitable trust.
If a class is cancelled, a full refund will be given. In all other situations, refunds are at our discretion, and an administration fee may be deducted. We appreciate that circumstances change and unforeseen events happen. We will do our best to help.
This workshop will only proceed if we have sufficient numbers. Full refunds will be provided if the workshop does not go ahead.
