School Holiday Program

Next School Holiday Program commences Monday 28th September 2020

Designed for young people aged 5 – 17 years.  Classes that will be available include printmaking, mixed media, painting, clay, art appreciation, building 3D virtual reality worlds and more.  Students can select from one-off workshops or multi-day workshops.  Our tutors including Maxine, Mary, Anabelle, Susan, Hannah and Jarred encompass a great diversity of arts experience and education.  We look forward to sharing our passion and experience in the arts with Northland’s young people.

School Holiday Arts Program Week 1

Looking & Talking about Art $11.00

Thinking and talking about art is an important part of developing a young persons art pratice, understanding and preferences.  What is Art?  What do you see? What do you like or dislike about different forms of art and styles?  This is an indoor/outdoor adventure on-site. Materials provided.

Experiencing & Investigating Art       $16.00           

Thinking and talking about art is an important part of developing a young persons art pratice, understanding and preferences.  What is Art?  What do you see? What do you like or dislike about different forms of art and styles?  We will introduce the concept of constructive criticism using famous artworks and art around the Quarry site.  Activities and group work will be undertaken inside and outdoors on-site. Tuesday, 29 September 10am-3pm & Friday, 2 October 10am-1pm           Age 10-17       

Print making   $60.00           

Across two days, students will learn basic printing techniques – including block – wood/lino – to create a range of examples and finished pieces. Day 1 will centre around building up ideas and methods towards completing a range of basic prints as well as a wood/lino block piece. Day 2 will be working further on the block prints and adding a second colour and printing, as well as finishing off any work from Day 1.

The intersection of art and technology is more accessible than ever before.  In this workshop we will explore the software tools available to create 3-dimensional and virtual reality worlds.  Through these tools we will consider the creative art opportunities and possibilities available.

School Holiday Arts Program Week 2

Monday, 5 October 2020       9.30am-12.30pm        Age 5-7           

Art Exploration          $36.00

A selection of fun hands on art experiences, with the main focus being exploration. The children will have fun making paintings and prints using a variety of different tools. They will learn how to paint with found objects, make rainbow string paintings, do marbling with shaving foam and print with leaves.  Art materials provided.

In this workshop the children will create an amazing abstract artwork using an assortment of decorative papers, acrylic paint, metallic pens and a variety of mark making tools. They will then turn their artwork into absolutely awesome explosion books. Art materials provided.

Clay Workshop           $110.00

Held across three days and we highly encourage attendance across all three days.  This is an opportunity for your child to create a sculptural pience by hand building with clay.  With the tutors help, kids will learn some of the basics of working with clay and gather techniques to use again.  Materials are provided.

Big Cats and Little Cats – Mixed Media          $36.00

First, in this workshop the children will learn how to use wax resisting and mark making to create a variety of colourful papers. They will then collage these papers onto a cardboard cat that they have created. Their cats will also have fun moveable parts. Materials are provided.

Paint your own masterpiece – Acrylic Paint on Canvas         $36.00

In this inspiring workshop children will be guided step by step through the process of creating their very own ‘Starry Starry Night’ masterpiece by Van Gogh. Children are encouraged to also add their own personal touches if inspired to do so. Art materials provided.
