Kids Art After School – Curriculum for developing Arts Practice

The Northland Craft Trust has been supporting and training artists in Northland for 41 years.

This new and unique arts program for Whangārei commenced in 2021 as a structured eight-week arts curriculum for young people. We recommend ages 8 to 12 and will consider ages outside that range based on ability and enthusiasm. Classes are limited to a maximum of 12 students.

Drop-off by 3.30pm – Pickup at 5.00pm
Tuesday Class – Term 4 starts on Tuesday 17th October 2023 (for eight weeks) – Limited spaces available
Program cost: $160 per term per child (additional siblings in the same family receive a 25% discount)

Students will have the opportunity each term to stage a pop-up exhibition for friends and whanau. Students completing the course will receive a certificate of completion from the Northland Craft Trust based on the mediums and elements developed during the term.

The workshops will also incorporate brief talks and demonstrations from local Northland artists to share their experience and knowledge of fine art practice.

The workshops are facilitated by Maxine McClenaghan, a registered primary school art teacher.

ART THEMES

Each term will focus on a specific theme. Within these themes, students will be able to express themselves and focus on ideas and concepts that resonate with them:

Examples of previous THEMES

Each week the art themes will be expressed through a variety of different mediums. This will develop students ability to interpret, conceptualize and express the same theme in many different ways following the lead of contemporary and historical artists and craftspeople.
