Friday 16 Feb – Saturday 16 March
Over the year, many workshops happen within the Art Shed. This month, the Yvonne Rust Gallery will showcase some of the work from some of those classes.
Watercolours
Friday 16 February – Monday 4 March
Every Wednesday morning the Watercolours group meets in the Art Shed to share time while honing their art form. This group has been meeting regularly for over 25 years (in various locations). It was initiated by the late Dr Bill Parkes, a retired GP/Geriatrician who loved art and was able to teach absolute beginners.
Bill’s enthusiasm and humour set the scene for people to explore the effect of colour pigment and water when mixed and brushed on to watercolour paper. Class participants come from varied backgrounds – retired, semi-retired, transient sailors, younger people wishing to explore and find pleasure in this form of art. Unfortunately Dr Bill passed away two years ago but the group continues to meet, supporting one another and sharing learned experiences. Everyone is welcome.
Life Drawing
Opening 5pm Friday 8 March – Duration: Friday 8 March – Saturday 16 March
On the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Saturdays of every month from 10am-12pm, the Art Shed fills with calm determination, as the room full of people at all levels of ability sketch a live model through a series of poses, capturing the elegance of the human form.
Life Drawing has been an integral activity of the Quarry Arts Centre for decades. The Whangarei Life Drawing Group continue this tradition and its community arts focus, with the support of the Creative Communities Scheme, Creative Northland, Hangar Gallery and Framing, and of course the Quarry Arts Centre.
