Surreal, Poetical and Fantastical: this oil painting show features two artists, Cecilia De Donatis and M Francis McCarthy.M Francis’ works in the style of Tonalism, inspired by the great painters of the 18th century, while also being influenced by modern art movements. His glowing paintings are poetic, conveying emotions of tranquility and peace. Images of the landscape draped in veils of mystery remind us of nature’s powerful ability to heal tired spirits.Cecilia De Donatis creates paintings that bring imagination to life with surrealist inspiration. ​Her art is a search for beauty and playfulness, with narrative and sentimental qualities. Born and raised in Italy, and living in Cuba and Australia and New Zealand, her diverse life experiences is reflected in the variety of her artistic subjects.
Both Cecilia and M Francis are based in Whangarei with close ties to the Quarry Arts Centre, where M Francis holds a studio, and Cecilia sells art in the Gallery Shop.
