The Quarry Arts Centre is excited to present the music and art of Maggie Cocco’s Science for Sociopaths! Maggie Cocco is a composer, performer, and educator based in Whangarei and for the past year has been filling our ears with a variety of music including the neo mellow sounds of Science for Sociopaths. This novel show, featuring original music and improvised collaborations with audience and local artists, earned the ‘Best Music Performance’ award at Auckland Fringe 2021.
Closing a year of touring New Zealand, The Yvonne Rust Gallery will feature the artworks made by musician, artist, and audience members during its previous shows, with a handful of final concerts. Maggie Cocco’s Science for Sociopaths is brave, vulnerable, fierce with mesmerizing musicality. Intimate solo piano arrangements allow the songwriting to take centre stage. Her neo-mellow songs stem from the lineage of America’s rich singer-songwriter culture ranging in expression from powerhouse to Disney princess.
This show features a 10-song cycle for voice and piano. Improvised visual art channels the intrinsic emotion of the musical journey in real time. At regular intervals throughout, the audience is invited to express their own interpretation of events via the artistic medium(s) provided.
