Ready to level up your pottery skills? Book and join this intermediate-level wheel workshop led by noted Northland ceramicist Julie Cromwell designed for those with a foundational pottery wheel skills looking to take the next step. If you can centre, open, and pull clay—but want to expand your confidence and technique—this class is your next step!

Across these four days you will explore:

  • Pulling and attaching handles
  • Design galleries and lids for functional pieces
  • Working with bats to create larger forms like plates and bowls

Basic understanding and wheel experience is required. If you are able to do this but need some help/guidance in moving along to the next stage this workshop is for you.   

Participants should have completed a previous beginners workshop here at the Quarry Arts Centre or similar. If you have beginner level clay experience, but it is your first time looking at attending an intermediate level workshop here at the Quarry Arts Centre, get in touch with us at programmes@quarryarts.org or come in and meet the Quarry Arts team at the Yvonne Rust Gallery Shop, we would love to hear about your clay making experience.

Excludes clay, firing and glaze.

All work left for drying must be accompanied with the fully completed green bisque form. 

Clay, firing and glaze are available through the Yvonne Rust Gallery Shop -  open Monday to Saturday 9.30am to 4.30pm.  

Tea, coffee, milk & biscuits will be provided.  

Please bring:
– Clay, tools and other materials/equipment you require
 – Existing projects or ideas you want to work on
– Suitable clothes and footwear
 – Snacks, lunch and refreshments you may require

Workshop Terms and Conditions

Workshops are held at the Quarry Arts Centre operated by the Northland Craft Trust, a registered non-profit charitable trust.  

As we don't have a cleaner to help us out, we ask that you check with your child to ensure they have done their bit and cleaned their tools and wiped their table area when picking them up. We appreciate your cooperation in maintaining a tidy environment, and all cleaning tools are provided for your convenience.

Workshop Terms and Conditions

Reservation and Payment: Your workshop spot is confirmed only once full payment has been received.

Payment must be completed before the workshop begins. We reserve the right to deny entry if the full fee has not been paid.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations are accepted up to one week before the workshop and will be refunded minus a 15% cancellation fee. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made within seven days of the workshop.

Transfers: You are allowed to transfer your place to another person, whether by gift or sale.

Missed Classes: If you miss a class, regardless of notice, rescheduling, refunds, make-up sessions are not provided. We will do our best to offer an alternative session if possible, subject to availability.

Workshop Cancellation by Us: Should we need to cancel a workshop due to unforeseen circumstances, we will attempt to reschedule or provide a full refund.

Minimum Participants: A minimum of 6 participants is required for this workshop to proceed. We reserve the right to cancel the workshop and issue a full refund if this number is not met.

By attending this Quarry Arts Centre workshop, you grant your consent for any photography or video taken that may be used for promotional purposes, both in printed materials and online (including our website and social media), internal reporting, and sharing with our generous sponsors.
