Workshop description:
Paint your own bisque-fired ceramic!
Winner of the People’s Choice Award for the 2024 Creative Cup Fundraiser, Nyree Sherlock, will be sharing some of her secrets in this one-off workshop. Paint your own special bisque-fired clay vessel for Christmas. All materials supplied, including: A bisque-fired ceramic vessel; underglaze paints; brushes; transfer paper; etc.
Ever thought about trying to paint onto a ceramic surface? Come along to The Quarry Arts and
join tutor Nyree Sherlock to explore the creative process of illustrative underglazing, which is
very similar to watercolour painting. Paint your own special bisque-fired clay vessel for
Christmas.
All materials supplied, including: A bisque-fired ceramic vessel; a range of coloured underglazes; brushes; transfer paper.
You will be shown:
how to transfer a simple design onto your ceramic vessel (designs will be available to use,
or you can also create your own).
How to use the underglaze colour to build up depth and definition in your applied design.
How to create background effects for your design.
NB: Once you have finished, your ceramic art-work will be put into a drying room, then it will be
clear-glazed and fired, ready for you to pick up on: Date 16-21 December.
This is a beginners workshop in the illustrative possibilities of applying underglazing paints onto
bisque-fired clay. It is suitable for creatives who wish to explore this painting process, but also
suitable for those that have attended the beginners glazing workshops.
“Losing ourselves in play during the creative process is a form of meditation that makes us more
