Welcome to The Quarry Arts Centre’s Beginner’s Clay Workshops Programme.
Get ready to start your incredible creative journey at our exciting Beginner’s Clay Handbuilding Workshop! This vibrant experience is all about diving into the world of clay handbuilding, where you will learn foundational techniques to mold and shape creations of your imagination. Whether you’re a clay novice starting out or just looking to have some fun, join us for this introductory workshop that promises to be a joyful, messy adventure.
Throughout the workshop, you will:
learn how to prepare and use different clays
explore a range of hand-working techniques, joining methods, slab rolling, and mold usage.
gain knowledge about good studio practices, and kiln firing.
use the ceramic facilities at the Quarry.
The workshop runs from 10 am until 3 pm including breaks for refreshments and lunch.
The Quarry will provide you with tools for this workshop and Include portions of clay and bisque kiln firing equal to a kiln quarter shelf*. Firing volumes above standard Quarry workshop limits may incur additional charges at the usual public kiln firing rates. If you are unfamiliar with submitting your own work for firing, please chat with our friendly staff in the Yvonne Rust Gallery for assistance before 4.30pm.
*Quarter shelf size: 300mm (w) × 230mm (d) × 150mm (h)
Please bring:
Suitable clothing and footwear, apron
Snacks, lunch and refreshments you may require
Suitable 18 years and older.
We kindly ask all attendees to take a moment to clean their tools and table and mop the floor around their working area before departing. We appreciate your cooperation in maintaining a tidy environment, and all cleaning tools are provided for your convenience. Thank you for helping us keep our space welcoming and pleasant for everyone!
Workshops are held at the Quarry Arts Centre operated by the Northland Craft Trust, a registered not-for-profit charitable trust.
Workshop Terms and Conditions
Reservation and Payment: Your workshop spot is confirmed only once full payment has been received. Payment must be completed before the workshop begins. We reserve the right to deny entry if the full fee has not been paid.
Cancellation Policy: Cancellations are accepted up to one week before the workshop and will be refunded minus a 15% cancellation fee. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made within seven days of the workshop.
Transfers: You are allowed to transfer your place to another person, whether by gift or sale.
Missed Classes: If you miss a class, regardless of notice, rescheduling, refunds, make-up sessions are not provided. We will do our best to offer an alternative session if possible, subject to availability.
Workshop Cancellation by Us: Should we need to cancel a workshop due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g., illness, government regulations), we will attempt to reschedule or provide a full refund.
Minimum Participants: A minimum of 5 participants is required for this workshop to proceed. We reserve the right to cancel the workshop and issue a full refund if this number is not met.
By attending this Quarry Arts Centre workshop, you grant your consent for any photography or video taken that may be used for promotional purposes, both in printed materials and online (including our website and social media), internal reporting, and sharing with our generous sponsors.
