Welcome to The Quarry Arts Centre’s Beginner’s Clay Workshops Programme! We’re thrilled to have you join us for a weekend filled with creativity and inspiration.
This Beginner’s Clay workshop is an introductory experience to the potter’s wheel. Experienced tutor and noted Northland ceramicist Julie Cromwell will introduce you to using the potter’s wheel with this hands-on course over two mornings. Participants will learn about the fundamental techniques of centring clay, pulling walls, and shaping unique bowls and vessels. On day one you will have the opportunity to have a go at throwing on a potter’s wheel, creating two to three pieces to work with on day two. On the second day, you will explore the turning (finishing) of your work ready for drying. All materials will be provided, and no prior experience is necessary.
10am – 1pm both days. Including breaks for refreshments and lunch.
Tools provided. Includes a 5KG half-bag of clay and bisque kiln firing equal to a kiln quarter shelf*. Firing volumes above standard Quarry workshop limits may incur additional charges at the usual public kiln firing rates. If you are unfamiliar with submitting your own work for firing, please chat with our friendly staff in the Yvonne Rust Gallery for assistance before 4.30pm.
*Quarter shelf size: 300mm (w) × 230mm (d) × 150mm (h)
