In this 7 week programme, these After School kids workshops will be lead by Maxine McClenaghan, a fully registered teacher and practising artist. The classes are educational, allowing children to express their creativity in fun and motivating ways, and develop creative problem-solving skills and mindfulness.
New and returning students welcome.
These classes are held in the Artshed at The Quarry Arts Centre. Book in for the 7 week programme, or book for individual classes.
August 6th
Clay Play
In this workshop the children will be inspired and guided to create a handmade clay piece of their own choosing.
August 13th
Art Magic
In this workshop we will combine science and art to experiment with a variety of mediums to create amazing pieces in astounding ways!
August 20th
Mini Masterpieces
In this workshop the children will be taught a variety of techniques to create beautiful miniature artworks.
August 27th
Painting Madness
In this workshop the children will create a variety of abstract paintings using some exciting painting techniques such as layering stencils and stamps, blocking out, and scraper painting,
September 3rd
Night and Day Silhouettes
In this workshop we will be creating beautiful day and night artworks using oil pastels, acrylics and paint pens.
September 10th
Clay Play #2
In this workshop the children will be inspired and guided to create a handmade clay piece of their own choosing.
September 17th
Glazing Bisque Fired Works
This workshop will be dedicated to glazing bisqued pieces children have previously created.
Clay work will be fired in our kilns and available for collection by notification by workshops@quarryarts.org
For siblings or friends in the same booking that are younger/older than the recommended age range, please check in with us first before booking via email workshops@quarryarts.org
What children need to bring:
● Suitable clothes that are ok for getting a bit dirty and potentially stained
● Clothing for the weather conditions (although our main room has a heat pump)
● Snacks and a drink of water
Other things to know:
Parents/guardians/care-givers need to register kids on arrival and provide a designated pick-up person. Please advise us on arrival of any important considerations (e.g. medical, allergies, custodial). We are unable to cater for unassisted children with special learning or behavioural support needs – we welcome support carers, but please check with us before booking.
Workshops are held at the Quarry Arts Centre operated by the Northland Craft Trust, a registered non-profit charitable trust.
If a class is cancelled a full refund will be given. In all other situations refunds for no-shows are at our discretion and an administration fee may be deducted. We appreciate that circumstances change, and unforeseen events happen. We will do our best to help.
