A welcome message from Russel Mooyman, Manager, Quarry Arts Centre
A Warm Welcome to the Ceramics@Home pilot programme, delivered to you from the
Quarry Arts Centre, Whangarei!
This is a first time for all of us and we’re thrilled to have you aboard as we explore a new
way of ceramics learning that can be done at home while sharing with the tutor and other
students in real time via video-chat, and with tools, materials and a kiln firing service
provided via courier.
Ceramics@Home aims to provide a learning experience that is as rewarding as our in-person
workshops – for those of us who, for a variety of reasons, are unable to attend our
workshops held regularly at the Quarry Arts Centre.
Quarry Arts is the longest-running art centre in New Zealand and the ceramics hub for
Northland. Established c. 1980 on a repurposed quarry just 1km from Whangarei central,
nestled in an amphitheater of cliffs and forest, Quarry Arts is a creative world of its own.
An active community of artists and practitioners make regular use of the centre’s tutors,
studios, kilns, clays, glazes etc, and now we are developing this programme to make these
accessible from the comfort of your home. We look forward to meeting you online and
helping you gain the fundamental skills to create quality ceramic creations.
