Some general notes about glazing…
In your pack will be the bisque fired work, return courier slip, low gloss glazes + brush, wax resist liquid + brush.
The glazing should be informative and helpful. Some important notes:
- The wax resist is not essential but can help preventing glaze from going below the drip line and bottom of the vessel. It is essential that there is no glaze on the bottom of any object that will touch the kiln shelf. There should also be a gap of approx 5mm from the bottom of any object to where the glaze starts. When you are finished, simply wipe off the wax resist with a damp cloth. Refer to the example below:
- We recommend at least three coats for a good finish. You can apply another coat as soon as the previous coat looks dry-ish. You can apply different coloured coasts, however, the end result will be variable.
- If the vessel is to be used for food or beverages, for the end result to be food safe, it is really important that every surface inside is covered and sealed well by the glaze.
- The glazed items can be sent back to us as soon as you are finished.
- Double boxing can help the items arrive back to us without breakage.
- Breakages do occur from time to time due to mishandling by couriers or the fagility of the object.
