These classes are held in the Scallop Room at the Quarry Arts Centre, 21 Selwyn Avenue, Whangārei 0110
Tutor: Jesse Bowling
Join us at the Quarry Arts Centre as we offer a series of 2.5-hour after-school workshops designed for teens aged 13–18. learning essential techniques such as throwing, shaping, trimming, decorating, and glazing. In these 4 weeks attendees will experience how to throw on the potter’s wheel, venturing toward making a vessel form of their own. All materials, tools and kiln firing is included.
Joining the Quarry Arts Centre as Term 4’s tutor is Jesse Bowling. Currently an Art and Art History teacher at Whangarei Girls High School, Jesse is a sculptor and a confident hand on the pottery wheel. With a Master of Fine Art from the Victorian College of the Arts, Jesse brings a hands-on, creative approach to teaching—encouraging teens to discover clay through making, experimenting, and thinking critically.
What students need to bring:
● An apron and suitable clothes that are okay for getting a bit dirty and potentially stained
● Clothing for the weather conditions (although our main room has a heat pump)
● pack some snacks, and a drink
Please advise us ahead of time via email of any important considerations (e.g. medical, allergies, custodial, accessibility). We are unable to cater for unassisted children with special learning or behavioural support needs - we welcome support carers, but please check with us before booking.
